Jeevi Bola, also known by Gurjeevan Bola, (b: 2005) is an emerging artist based on Dharug land (Western Sydney) whose interdisciplinary practice investigates the life and death of the matriarch. Visual exploration provides a method to find the trail her ancestors took, bridging a cross generational gap by following in their footsteps. Her practice aims to submerge itself in the remnants left behind by matriarchal figures in her family and in the greater diaspora left for the next generation to discover and follow.
Interdisciplinary exploration has provided room for Bola’s practice to evolve beyond a defining medium, thriving when presented with unusual and at times restrictive material possibilities. Her long term immersion in ceramics and dance based communities in Sydney’s west have given her a multifaceted practice. Visual and performance while blending into one another in her body of work with time have played a role pioneering the Indian classical dance form Kathak in a fine art setting.
